About

I am a scholar, educator and businesswoman. I focus on areas of scholarship that genuinely interest me and that I find to be under-researched, such as several multi-disciplinary topics. My undergraduate studies were in both the humanities, specifically languages and art, and the social sciences, psychology and economics. My academic background in these other disciplines helps me better understand the fields in which I have specialized and hold a master’s degree and a PhD, global finance and economics.

Areas of Research

Unconventional Monetary Policy

My doctoral dissertation analyzed aspects of the intersection of economics and financial markets with a focus on the effects of unconventional monetary policies.

Financial and Economic Crises

My work on several financial and economic crises, including the 2008, euro, Argentine, Asian, Icelandic, Irish, Mexican, and Russian ones, continues to inform my scholarship.

Financial Architecture and Governance

Other work, such as on sovereign wealth funds, currency unions, and regional financial cooperation, also contributes to my understanding.

Democratization of Finance

As part of the development of markets, I am researching the democratization of finance to include behavioral economics, new platforms, participants and trading strategies.

Religion, Finance and Economics

A concurrent area of multi-disciplinary research incorporates neglected questions concerning morality and humanity into the disciplines of finance and economics.

Other Multi-disciplinary Work

A forthcoming area of my research is the use of cryptocurrencies in the context of international economics, as some developing countries are officially adopting them.

Engaged Scholarship

My scholarship aims to inform the world, and it is also informed by it. One of my newer areas of research, which is focused on the intersection of religion, finance and economics, was influenced by the racial reckoning in the United States that was triggered in part by the murder of George Floyd in the city in which I grew up and live, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Previous scholarship was motivated by my personal experiences as an Indian immigrant, as I continue to be fascinated by other countries and cultures, and by my prior professional experiences working in finance.
